AKELE PARNELL works on GTI's market-expansion activities, commercial transactions and corporate and securities matters. He joined GTI to be on the forefront of the rapidly growing cannabis industry and support the company's commitment to shaping the burgeoning industry to include positive economic and social impacts for the communities most harmed by the War on Drugs.
Prior to joining GTI, Akele was an associate at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP and Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, where he counseled public and private healthcare and retail companies on corporate transactional and securities matters. Prior to his career as an attorney, Akele worked as a program associate for North Chicago Community Partners, an early adopter of the venture philanthropy model, and taught English at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Akele earned a B.A. in History from Auburn University and a J.D. and M.P.H. from Washington University in St. Louis.
Akele currently resides in Chicago. In his free time, you can find him eating, playing pick-up, listening to music, and volunteering with community organizations.
